Glenn Schwartz is CSUSM's 2008 Alumni Advocate of the Year

In 2002, the idea of alumni doing political advocacy was still in its infancy statewide, but Glenn joined the Alumni Association Board with two purposes in mind: volunteering to help build the Alumni Association into a truly professional organization that its members would be proud to be associated with, and because he strongly believed that alumni could make a difference politically for the CSU. Shortly after his arrival on the board, Glenn became the occupant of the newly-created board position of Director of Legislative Affairs.
Glenn worked tirelessly to build awareness of CSU San Marcos to our legislators and to bring awareness to our legislators on issues of importance to his campus. Although a small business owner, he took time away from his business to join President Haynes and Carol Bonomo, Director of Legislative Affairs, on numerous trips to Sacramento in order to lobby our delegation and present a fresh point of view on the needs of the CSU that a staff person cannot present as credibly. He did his homework on the issues and was, indeed, the credible voice we needed. He updated the Board on these issues as well and began to represent our alumni to the CSU Alumni Council, where he served as a member of the Government Relations Committee.
His legacy remains with our Alumni Association, which has continued to seat a Director of Legislative Affairs position on its board since he concluded his term of office. We are honored to nominate an individual who worked so hard to start our Alumni Association in the direction of political advocacy on behalf of the CSU.
Congratulations Glenn!
